DOG 101

                                                                Getting a Puppy.

So you and your family have decided that you're ready for a new member of the family. We have a few suggestions at The Playful Puppy Palace. They are suggestions, so if you decide otherwise that is fine too. We have 2 suggestions for you.

1. Adopting from a shelter or a rescue group. Adoption fees are far more affordable and your dog will be up to date with vaccinations, be spayed or neutered and most of the shelters or rescue groups do basic training with the dog.

2. A Reputable breeder. Always get a referral from your local vet, the CKC  or a local breed club. A good breeder will always have the mom on sight, and know the temperment of the parents and the grandparents.  A good breeder will only adopt the dog at 2months of age or older. As when a puppy is taken from it's mother too early, there can be health and behavior problems with the dog.

Where NOT to buy your puppy.

A pet store at the mall. Most of the dog's come from puppy mills, and some people may think they are "rescuing the puppy" from the pet store, but in fact they are keeping the puppy mills in business. Because when that kennel at the pet store is empty they need to "fill" it up.

Also on the internet. These brokers are glorified puppy mills. Where do you think they get the puppies from? These puppies are usually in bred and later on in life will have a higher chance of getting genetic conditions and diseases. Both from the pet stores and the internet you do not get to meet the parents or neither do you get to know the temperment of the parents or the grandparents as the staff or broker don't know as well.

Once again, these are only suggestions and when you see that cute little "puppy in the window" and are tempted to go in and buy it, please reconsider where it came from and the horrible conditions it came from.
